We just ate three heaping bowls of pasta each…is that normal? Seriously, we have lost all sense of “normal size” portions since we started training for the Tour D’Afrique. We get back from a 100+ km training ride and we attack the fridge like a pack of wild hyenas. The helmets and shoes are barely removed before the fridge door is open and we are in an “every man for himself “ grab for anything remotely edible. No talking, no eye contact, no communication of any kind…just a crazed panic to eat. Same thing happened when we were cycling through Europe. This picture was taken years ago in Italy after a 150 km bike ride. A solid 15 minutes must have passed before we looked up and realized that we were crouched over a shopping cart in a crowded parking lot of the grocery store, shoving huge slabs of cheese and bread into our mouths with both fists. The locals must have thought we had never seen food before. Sigh, good, good times. The real problem of course occurs when you stop cycling. You’re suddenly burning a fraction of what you were before but are continuing to eat for 5. You’re still thinking that a dozen bagels for breakfast is perfectly normal, when in reality, you should be stopping at …what?…11?…10.5?
Well anyway, if you are of one of those unfortunate souls that happens to work with either one of us right now, you may want to consider hiding your lunch
…That’s all I’m saying.
