Many of you have been asking whether we are still going to Kenya. The problems in Kenya erupted shortly before we left for Egypt. We asked the TDA at that time what would happen to the Kenya section. We were told that they were going to keep their eye on the situation and make a decision closer to our scheduled entry date. In the meantime, they would be looking at alternate routes. As a last resort we would have to fly over.
As you all know, the situation in Kenya has detonated so the TDA has decided to cancel that segment of the tour. We are of course disappointed that we will not be able to cycle the entire distance from Cairo to Cape Town, but hundreds of people have been killed or displaced from their homes. Our disappointment is nothing…less then nothing.
The tour will resume in Tanzania, leaving us with about 16 days to fill some other way. Some have decided to climb Kilimanjaro, others to go to Zanzibar, still others to go to Uganda. Some are even considering going home due to the cost. We haven’t decided yet, probably Kilimanjaro. We’ll let you know when we finalize our plans.
