Hello Everyone at Terry Fox Elementary!!!!
On January 12, 2008, at the foot of the pyramids in Egypt, we started our cycling trip through Africa. So far we have cycled in three countries: Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. The cycling has been very fun. We have cycled almost 3000 km in many different landscapes.
In Egypt, we saw the pyramids which were built over 4000 years ago. They were very impressive. We also visited many other temples in Luxor and Edfu. We cycled mostly along the Red Sea and the Nile River.
In Sudan we cycled mainly through the desert. It was very cold in the morning, and very hot in the afternoon. Sometimes we cycled on the road, and sometimes we cycled on dirt or sand. We fell down a few times in the sand, but we got back up again.
In Ethiopia, we have been cycling in the mountains. The uphills are very hard, but the downhills are lots of fun.
We have seen many animals along the way including; donkeys, monkeys, goats, sheep and camels. Sometimes, we even have to stop to let a herd of camels or cows cross the road. We will be seeing many more animals in the months to come.
We camp most nights, so far mostly in the desert. One night we even camped in a zoo!
The people we have met so far have been very nice to us. We have very much enjoyed making new friends and learning about their lives.
That’s all our news for now. We hope you are all doing well and are enjoying following along. Thank you all for your emails and comments. We very much enjoy reading them.
Take Care.
Spiros and Maria
