We’re now in exotic and beautiful Zanzibar, Tanzania. We spent two nights in Stone Town where we realized how much our “standards had lowered”. There was a power outage on the island and the hotel we checked into didn’t have running water…no laundry, no shower, no flushing toilets..and yet we felt no need to get up and move to the next hotel down the street.
Stone Town is very touristy but quite pretty with very interesting buildings and a great nightime market where you can get platefuls of charbroiled octopus and squid.
We will be spending a few days at the beach. We don’t usually like doing the beach thing, but we have to admit this is a beautiful place. Turquoise water, spotless white sand beaches, and great seafood: not a bad way to nurse a broken collar bone.
We stay here for a few days, and then we’re off to Arusha. We’ll update again shortly.
