The day we cycled to Cape Point wasn’t without a little bit of drama. We were starving by the time we got to the lighthouse so we bought some yogurt and cookies from the restaurant. It was a beautiful day so of course we wanted to sit outside. We found our spot, sat down and were about to start chowing down when we suddenly heard: “Baboon is going to get ya’”. I looked up to see one of the staff members running toward us swinging a very long metal pole. A few steps behind her was yet another staff member, this one armed with a slingshot. We turned around and sure enough two huge baboons were coming straight for us at top speed. Now, being on the TDA, we’ve learnt a thing or two about fighting for scraps of food; we were pretty sure we could win this battle. I was getting into my “protect your food” stance when I suddenly envisioned calling home and having this conversation: “Yes, Spiros’ collar bone is just fine…Infection? Oh, that has cleared up nicely….but…uumm…well…he’s been mauled by two baboons…just slightly though…nothing to worry about. I’m sure he’ll get back on the bike real soon”. So we decided to grab our goodies and run for it instead. We made it. :D
