A big thank you to all those who sent us suggestions on how to de-stinkify our tent. It seems we now have bigger problems than the fumes emanating from our little abode.
Our tent is “finished”…almost. Over the past 7 months, we’ve broken the tent poles twice (repaired), ripped a hole in the mesh (repaired) and, ever since the sandstorms of Sudan, have had endless problems with the zippers. Our tent has, or had, 2 doors; 4 zippers. One by one, the zippers have stopped working. By Namibia we were down to only one functional door. In Vienna, we completely broke off one of the two remaining zippers in a failed attempt to fix it.
Last night when I went back to the tent after a shower, Spiros announced that he had a “few more issues” with it and had to make “some adjustments”. He then held up the sewing kit. I took a closer look; the bottom half of the “functional door” is now sewn completely shut. We are now down to half a door!
It’s quite a feat getting in and out now; a gentle balancing act requiring quite a bit of finesse and flexibility I’ll have you know. I suppose we should go buy a new one…but where’s the fun in that? Nope, I’m pretty sure we’ll keep sucking in our guts and slowly inching our way in and out until the day we have to use the Swiss Army knife to cut our way out. It’ll happen.
