Last we reported on our tent, the fumes emanating from it were suffocating us and we were down to only half a functional door. Today, one of the tent poles snapped. Fortunately, we had brought along a tent repair kit with an extra sleeve for just such an occasion. Unfortunately, this is the second “just such an occasion”.
After scratching our heads for a little bit, we rigged up a temporary solution using the extra spokes from Spiros’ broken wheel, some extra tent pegs and of course, tape. Bit of a hack job, but so far so good.
So, it seems our tent has had enough and just wants to throw in the towel. Seeing that all purchases are now weighed against how much faster we would have to go home or how many cappuccinos we would have to give up, you can be sure we’re bound and determined to make sure it holds up till the end of the Europe trip. We have a sewing kit, glue, tie-wraps and of course, electrical tape (never leave home on a cycling trip without it). We figure we can breathe life back into her at least a few more times.
In other news, our thermarests have holes in them, the zippers on our backpacks are broken, our sleeping bags’ seams are coming apart (down feathers everywhere), our cycling shorts are falling apart, two of my shirts are now tie-dyed after an unfortunate mishap with a washing machine, we’ve had to throw out two pairs of pants because they basically disintegrated, our socks have holes in them, the screen on our point and shoot camera is distorted after being dropped one too many times, our cycling gloves are biohazards and we’ve had to sew Spiro’s Keens. Oh…and we ain’t looking too good either.
