Back on the Road

It’s been five days since we rented the apartment in Avignon. We’ve spent hours pouring over maps, our clothes have been washed and washed again, the holes in our socks and shorts have been sewn, thermarests have been repaired, packages have been sent home and my hair is mysteriously darker. We got a lot done, have a new found fondness for Avignon and I’ll admit it was nice to have a fridge for awhile, but the itch to get back on our bikes is too strong; time to hit the road again. We’re off to cycle the Gorge du Tarn.

BTW, the gallery has been updated and we’ve added new rotating banners to some of the web pages. Refresh the page to flip through them.

Hope you are all doing well.

    OK you two.

As I sit here on a Saturday afternoon getting ready to WORK because I took the day off yesterday to take my kid on a school trip, I am sending you evil lightning bolts. I AM JEALOUSE.. Yes I admit it… my usual admiration, feelings of pride, support, joy for what you are doing are GONE RIGHT NOW. I AM PISSED…. Why am I sitting here and not wondering if I should take a detour for a few days? Why don’t I just drop everything and enjoy the light of Tuscany? That does it, decision made….

    Hi Maria (and Spiros),

I’ve been following your journal during my own preps for the 2009 TdA, and I wanted to let you know that you’ve accomplished at least one of your goals: To remind woman with thunder thighs everywhere, that “Strong is best baby!!!”
I was hoping that with cycling some hundreds km a week, my legs would miraculously change into beautifully toned, long, slender, deer like limbs, but I appear to be blessed with the thunder thigh gene as well… But thanks to you I’ve come to accept this! GO THUNDER THIGHS!!!

I do have one burning question though: do they ever stop growing, or should I get some bigger cycling shorts before leaving?!

    Hi Evelijn,

Great to hear from another thunder thigh gal! First of all, congratulations on signing up for the TDA!!! It’s an unforgettable experience. Good for you!

My legs haven’t stopped growing yet, but that might have more to do with the cheese and chocolate. ;-)

    Maria
