If you’ve spent any length of time with me at all, then you’ve probably heard me talk about cycling in France. We first cycled in France 8 years ago, and it is still one of our favorite countries to tour. As far as terrain and landscapes go, it has something for everybody. Looking for a challenge? Head to the Pyrenees or give the Alps a try. Looking for gentle rides along Châteaux and tranquil rivers? Head for the Loire. Looking for wine country? Head for Alsace or Bordeaux. Are fields of lavender and perched villages your fancy? Well then, Provence is the choice for you. Have a hankering for the Mediterranean? Then it’s the Cote D’Azur. And let’s not forget our favorite; the Dordogne river valley. The list goes on and on. The excellent secondary road system means that you can cycle weeks on end without ever really having to ride on a major road. France’s love for cyclists means that you will be greeted regularly with a smile and a “Bon Courage”. And of course, there is the food. Can it really get much better then delicate pastries, warm baguettes, excellent cheeses, fresh produce and world class wines?
You’ve heard me say it before, and I’ll say it again. For the cyclist, France is hard to beat! (Bring lots of money though, it’s expensive.
