It’s October 11th. By now we should be well into Northern Spain making our way to Barcelona. I’m expecting to see churches, coastal scenery, restaurants serving tapas and sangrias. But, I’m looking around and this doesn’t look like Spain. Mosques, a colorful medina, endless shwarma stands, souks, that “Welcome to Tunisia” sign we just past. Hey, wait a second. We aren’t in Spain at all! We’re in Tunisia! Yup, a quick look at our map confirms that we must have made a wrong turn somewhere after Carcasonne. Headed east instead of west for a few days, then south to Marseilles, waited in a ferry queue for an hour, taken a 20 hour ferry ride, gone through passport control, and cycled into Tunis all without noticing! Dang!
Okay, okay, I’m obviously kidding. We really enjoyed the last few months in Europe; a chance to revel in world class cycling routes, gorgeous scenery and picnics of scrumptious soft goat cheese spread over a warm baguette. Europe was…is… undeniably grand, but we missed the magic that is Africa; simple as that. So Spain will have to wait for some other year. Now, we are back in Africa. We’re happy, we’re excited, we can’t wait to cycle in the desert again. It’ll be a short stay, just a few weeks and then we’ll head back to Paris.
Okay, enough time spent on the computer. We’re off to explore Tunis’ medina.

Hello lovely travellers. So, welcome back to Africa. You at the top, and me here at the bottom. Good choice you made. Follow the Sun, you can’t go wrong. So….we all know Europe and still we love your descriptions. But Tunisia!!! WoW! Tell EVERYTHING!!
Love and Sweetness to you both. I wish you each a brand new pair of socks and new undies soon, and I’m not ashamed to say that I would have chosen the first option in your hypothetical quiz posted in an earlier blog. The one regarding the hypothetical loss of an item into the toilet. But then I travelled down Africa with you guys, and….well…after all that, I’m not even a tiny bit fazed at such a prospect.
Enjoy those Godless bloody Arabic toilets there. Ha Ha!

So when are you going to turn this incredible site, these breathtaking pictures, and this funny and warm journal and turn it into the book we all need to have. Really, in these times of Economic hardships, Climate change, and Obesity epidemics what at timely example you are setting.

Hey Mel,
We’ve been reminiscing about our time in Africa, especially South Africa the past couple of days. What an amazing time that was. Tunisia was interesting. We’ll try to update in a few days.
Missing you and Luc.

Hey,
I’m loving reading your posts and glad your two are still on your bikes and blazing a path through Europe.A question? When are you doing the Silk Route? or are you going to South America first? If so, on an orgainsed tour? or shall I just come and hang with you guys? I’m trying to figure out my next venture and I do love your style and hope that you have sampled lots of cheese and wine along your route (as we discussed back in Cairo before TDA 08. Maria here’s a riddle for you…do you think your feet will recognise stilletos when they get back to Canada? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm love ya xxx Janet

P.S. When is your photography book being published?

Hey Janet!
Stilletos??!!! I haven’t worn anything but cycling shoes and sandals for almost a year now. The chances of me squeezing the these things I call feet into a pair of stilletos is nill.
As for the Silk Route and South America, we would LOVE to do both. Just a question of time…oh yeah…and money.
