Hello Laos

ThailandAfter taking the train to Chiang Mai, we cycled northeast for three days to the Chiang Khong – Huay Xai border crossing. We weren’t really expected much from this stretch of road but it turned out be quite pleasant. It’s hard to complain when the food is awesome and the people are so friendly. Thailand truly is the “Land of Smiles”…and 7 Elevens.

We crossed the river leaving Thailand and entering Laos, the 24th country on our tour. Our plan is to cycle north along Highway 3 until Luang Namtha and then make our way south to Luang Prabang and Vientiane. Based on what we’ve read on other tour reports, we expect the mountain scenery and the cycling to be outstanding. If that weren’t enough, our guidebook describes the Lao people as “possibly the most chilled out people in the world”, who make it a point to incorporate a little bit of fun in whatever they do, be it work or play. Hmmm…very wise, very wise. Yup, I think we’re going to like Laos. :-)
